Dr. Natalia Zalewska Discusses Mars Exploration in „Poranek w Polskim Radiu Dzieciom”

We are pleased to announce that Natalia Zalewska PhD was recently invited to participate in the program „Poranek w Polskim Radiu Dzieciom”, hosted by Zbigniew Kozłowski. During the broadcast, Dr. Zalewska shared her expertise on Mars and ongoing research related to the Red Planet.

The episode, which aired on April 13th, 2025 at 10:00 AM (available here — select the broadcast titled „Poranek w Polskim Radiu Dzieciom 13 kwietnia godz. 10:00”), featured a discussion with children about their views on the possibility of life on Mars. Many young participants expressed their belief that life could exist beyond Earth and even imagined future holidays on Mars.

Natalia Zalewska PhD, impressed by the children’s knowledge and curiosity, addressed the scientific challenges of sending humans to Mars. She explained that a journey to the planet would take approximately six months, and the long-term effects of microgravity on human health remain largely unknown. Although visionaries like Elon Musk dream of sending humans — even children — to Mars soon, the risks remain extremely high.

In the conversation, Natalia Zalewska PhD also elaborated on humanity’s fascination with Mars and described her research activities at the Polish Academy of Sciences, where she focuses on analyzing the Martian surface using data from orbiting satellites.

A highlight of the discussion was the MIRORES Mars project — a spectrometer that will search for valuable mineral deposits from Mars’ orbit. This technology aims to support future human missions by identifying resources that could be used directly on Mars, reducing the need to transport building materials from Earth. The ability to manufacture key components of Martian bases locally would be a major step toward sustainable colonization.

We invite you to listen to this insightful broadcast here (April 13th, 2025, 10:00 AM).
