Last weekend, Wrocław transformed into a vibrant hub for space innovation as it hosted the 11th CASSINI Hackathon: Space for Water. As an official event partner, MIRORES was proud to play a central role in this initiative, which brought together bright minds to solve one of Earth’s most pressing challenges: the sustainable management of our water resources.

Expert mentorship and collaborative innovation

Our CEO, Jakub Ciążela, joined an elite “Avengers-level” team of mentors to guide participants through the 46-hour intensive competition. Supporting 19 teams, Jakub provided expertise on how to bridge the gap between complex satellite data and practical, real-world applications.

The energy in Wrocław was exceptional, making it one of the top three hubs in Europe by engagement, with over 200 registrations and 109 final participants.

Turning satellite insights into real-world solutions

The hackathon focused on utilizing the EU’s space infrastructure—specifically Copernicus and Galileo—to address local and global water issues. Participants tackled challenges such as:

  • Satellite Data Integration: Using Earth observation to monitor water quality and identify pollution sources.
  • Disaster Risk Monitoring: Developing retention strategies and flood prevention models, specifically focusing on the Oder river basin.
  • Infrastructure Efficiency: Solving critical utility problems, such as leak detection, in collaboration with MPWiK Wrocław.

A commitment to sustainability

At MIRORES, we believe that the “future is in the stars,” but our immediate mission is protecting the resources beneath our feet. This event perfectly aligned with our core values of engineering excellence and environmental stewardship. Seeing the “blend of youth and experience” (as noted by organizers) tackle these abstract themes and turn them into concrete scenarios was truly inspiring.

We would like to extend our congratulations to the organizers—Startup Wrocław (Wrocław Agglomeration Development Agency) and the European Union Agency for the Space Programme (EUSPA)—for orchestrating such a successful event.

The future of water management is being written now, and MIRORES is honored to be part of the story.
